‘Succes’ Betuwelijn nadelig voor omwonenden IJssel- en Twent

Er valt flink wat af te dingen op het succes van de Betuwelijn, stelt Jan Slagman. Goederentreinen zorgen voor veel overlast in Twente.

Onlangs vierde de Betuweroute haar eerste lustrum. Vijf jaar geleden reed de eerste trein over de goederenlijn. Het vervoer over de lijn zit in de lift, blijkt ook uit het krantenartikel (RD 16-6). Toch is niet alles rozengeur en maneschijn.

Toen tot aanleg van de Betuweroute werd besloten, was men van plan om ook een noordelijke en een zuidelijke aftakking aan te leggen. De noordelijke aftakking zou door de Achterhoek gaan en de zuidelijke via Venlo. Helaas heeft toenmalig minister Netelenbos deze beslissingen eind jaren negentig teruggedraaid.
