Utrecht Centraal is een hoofdpijnstation.

De infrastructuur is veel te complex. En ook als de treinenloop bijgestuurd moet worden, is dat zo ingewikkeld, dat er bij grote verstoringen een onbeheerst proces ontstaat. Dat schrijft spoorbeheerder ProRail aan het ministerie van Infrastructuur en Milieu in een logistieke vergelijking tussen de stations van Tokio, Zurich en Utrecht. De vergelijking is in januari 2010 al gemaakt. In februari van dit jaar werd hij naar het ministerie gestuurd.
