UTRECHT – De NS heeft vorig jaar 100.677 keer een helpende hand toegestoken aan reizigers in rolstoelen en blinden.

Dit is een stijging van 9 procent ten opzichte van 2010. Gehandicapten reisden in 2011 ongeveer 41.000 keer met de trein. Ten opzichte van 2010 is dit een stijging van 5 procent. Aan elke reis komt minstens twee keer, maar regelmatig vier keer, assistentie te pas. Gehandicapte reizigers worden namelijk geholpen met zowel in- en uitstappen als overstappen.
