Spoorwegbeheerder ProRail en exploitant Keyrail zijn volgens het Openbaar Ministerie schuldig aan de grote brand op rangeerterrein Kijfhoek.

Dat was op 14 januari 2011. Dinsdagochtend diende in Rotterdam een eerste rechtszaak tegen ProRail en Keyrail.

Ze zouden hebben gehandeld in strijd met de Wet Vervoer Gevaarlijke Stoffen en de milieuvergunning. Op diverse punten ging het mis. Op het rangeerterrein tussen Zwijndrecht en Barendrecht mogen wagons bij het koppelen een snelheid hebben van maximaal 6 km per uur. Op de bewuste vrijdagavond in 2011 was de snelheid vier keer zo hoog. Daardoor botsten wagons te hard op elkaar en brak de brand uit.
