Campagne: Aanrijdingen op overwegen

- Aantal aanrijdingen op overwegen stijgt, vooral ouderen kwetsbaar
- ProRail start campagne: negeer de overwegbel niet, help ouderen een handje

Na een jarenlange daling is het aantal aanrijdingen op overwegen weer gestegen van 32 in 2010 naar 42 in 2011. In 2012 hebben er al 18 aanrijdingen plaatsgevonden en zijn er al 7 doden te betreuren. ProRail start deze week een overwegcampagne om extra aandacht te vragen voor de overweg.

Techniek om overwegen te beveiligen is essentieel. Veilig gedrag van weggebruikers is minstens zo belangrijk. Waar jongeren de signalen op overwegen vaak negeren, raken ouderen soms in paniek. Vandaag organiseert Veilig Verkeer Nederland samen met ProRail een scootmobieltraining in Hardinxveld-Giessendam. Ouderen oefenen samen met BOA’s van ProRail het oversteken en de belangrijkste aandachtspunten op overwegen worden toegelicht. Ook roept ProRail medeweggebruikers op om ouderen een handje te helpen bij het oversteken van de overweg.
