GRONINGEN - Tussen het Groninger Hoofdstation moet een tunnel komen die de stad verbindt met de Rivierenbuurt.

Althans dat is de wens van de Groninger gemeenteraad. Woensdagavond sprak de raadscommissie verkeer zich unaniem uit voor een tunnel. Die geniet de voorkeur boven een zogeheten passerelle over de sporen heen. De tunnel is breed genoeg om winkels te herbergen. Daarnaast wordt gehoopt dat fietsers ook van de tunnel gebruik kunnen maken. Doorslaggevend voor veel fracties is dat de tunnel uitmondt nabij de fraaie stationshal. Die hal ligt er nu nogal verlaten bij. Dankzij de tunnel krijgt de hal weer een functie.
