Doortrekken spoorlijn Antwerpen-Neerpelt naar Weert

HAMONT/WEERT - Reizigersorganisaties uit België en Nederland vragen om de treinverbinding van Hamont tot de Nederlandse gemeente Weert, tien kilometer verderop, door te trekken.

Vanaf december volgend jaar zal er een trein van Neerpelt doorrijden naar Hamont. De voorbereidende werken voor die verbinding zijn van start gegaan. Burgemeester Theo Schuurmans (CD&V) heeft jaren gelobbyd om deze verbinding door te trekken en de trein zelfs nog verder, tot in Weert, te laten rijden. Zo krijgen de inwoners in het noorden van Limburg een betere verbinding richting Antwerpen, maar wordt de grensstad ook beter verbonden met Nederland.
